The Burnaby North Viking Marching Band took a whirlwind trip to Calgary, Alberta. With an estimated 350,000 spectators lining the streets, the second longest parade in North America stretched five kilometers through downtown Calgary.

The students were accommodated at a high school and on the day of the parade, roads were blocked while their bus was given a police escort to the mustering area. The route was loud and exciting, packed with people 10-deep along the sidewalks.  Every available window and roof-top was filled with cheering crowds. What a thrill!

Through the generosity of our donors, parent volunteers, Peter Wenzek and Stampede Parade Committee, the students were able to experience Western Canadian culture at it’s finest by attending the rodeo events and the grandstand show.

For many of our students this was a first and I know will be remembered by all as the experience of a lifetime.

On behalf of the Burnaby North Secondary School Marching Band,

Thank you to those that helped make our trip to Calgary possible.
